“Predictions are difficult – especially when they involve the future” – attributed to both Niels Bohr and Yogi Berra – there’s a winning if unlikely combination.
“If you do not change direction, you might end up where you are heading” – Lao Tzu
“Chaos is the score upon which reality is written” - Henry Miller
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself.” - Matthew 6:33-34
“I told my psychiatrist I think everyone hates me, he said that’s ridiculous, not everyone has met you yet” – Rodney Dangerfield
Bottom line is that flexibility, faith and improvisation are keys to a worry free musical life that has included:
- A keyboard deciding to change pitch without warning – didn’t think that was electronically possible
- A vocalist deciding to change pitch without warning – toooootally possible… OK, it was me, but still…
- Exhaust system divorcing itself from car on the way home from a set – tied it back on with a mic cable – melted some but we still use the cable.
- Homeless guy elects to remove pants during an outdoor set in the Third Ward. Hey, we’re building an audience anyway we can.
- Enthusiastic young audience member went rear-end-over-tea-kettle lodging herself in the drum kit. Alcohol may have been a factor
- Opened for an AC/DC cover band at the old Papa’s Social Club… to mixed reviews.
To our many musician, venue owners and event planner friends on this mailing list, please do consider sharing your wackiest tales of music adventure – we’d love to include them in a future newsletter. Winner of best or baddest story wins a free drink at any of our sets courtesy of yours truly.
As for the JRT - we’ll keep on meeting unpredictability and chaos with faith, good natured humor and a genuine curiosity about what happens next and how this all plays out – hoping you’ll continue to join us for what promises to be a wild ride.
