Ryan: “It was recently time to select something to give up for Lent – a reminder of what was given up for me. Side benefit is a Lenten foray into self improvement: a jump start on kicking a habit that needed to go anyway. This years nix is cursing. I keep a lid on it fairly well when out and about, but when mumbling and grumbling to myself in the car or around the house – you’d think I work on a boat. In fairness I believe I elevate the craft through creative conjugation and sentence structure… but let’s be real, it’s not congruent with whom I am trying to be…”
Reader: “an insufferable tool?”
Ryan: “Well… insufferable is a judgement call, but fair point. Anyways, a week or two into it and not batting 1000 just yet BUT making progress. I have concern that I’m eliminating a personal safety valve and consequentially developing a facial tick. More vexing is determining which words are ‘no go’ and which are simply colorful vernacular.”
Reader: “Is this where the newsletter devolves into a list of mild curse words?”
Ryan: “ya.”
Reader: “I stopped reading two paragraphs ago”
Ryan: “I stopped proofreading two years ago. OK – well then I’ll keep the PG13 version of the George Carlin list to myself. Let’s instead convene in person for words sung instead of spoken.”
Reader: “Son of a biscuit… shut the front door.
